Sociologists and Scholars of religious studies often utilize What’s called the 3B framework of religion and religious identity formation. The 3Bs stand for Beliefs,  Behavior and Belonging

  • The Belief Dimension consists of ideas about theology philosophy ethics and cosmology held within a religion.

  • The Behavior Dimension consists of actions which religious individuals and groups take such as rituals rights Daily Devotional practices prayer and holidays.

  • Belonging refers to an individual’s sense of membership or belonging to a group or identity here in the Protestant Christian dominated U.S we often think of religion primarily as a set of beliefs and that any religious Behavior or belonging must spring from that this can be seen in the way we often refer to religious people as Believers even in the case of protestant Christianity though that is overly simplistic
