- Belonging refers to an individual’s sense of membership or belonging to a group or identity here in the Protestant Christian dominated U.S we often think of religion primarily as a set of beliefs and that any religious Behavior or belonging must spring from that this can be seen in the way we often refer to religious people as Believers even in the case of protestant Christianity though that is overly simplistic
